Somalia, Africa: A security guard from the SPU – Special Protection Unit, trained by the UN, allows himself to be portrayed in the town of Eyl, at a historical area where they previously fought their land back from Italian occupation. Somalia was established in 1960. Today the area of Eyl is free of pirates from Somalia who hijack vessels on the coast.

Ukraine, Europe: Ukrainian firefighters and paramedics are transferring a civilian man alive out of the destroyed rubble at residential buildings in Kharkiv, East part of Ukraine, which was hit by a Russian missile. 23 January 2024. During the evening, the firefighters found the man's wife and child dead inside their former home. 11 civilian people died in Kharkiv, approximately 75 people were injured and several residential buildings were destroyed. The capital Kyiv in Ukraine was also hit by Russian missile attacks.

The Mediterranean Sea, outside Libya coast: People from the first rescue are sleeping and taking a rest. There were 41 people. 39 men and 2 women. Their first meeting is the day after at 09:45 am.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe: Atefeh Mohseni (left) is ten years old, but already an adult. "Yesterday we walked 25 kilometers and then we were sent back by the police," says Atefeh in English.

Somalia, Africa: Hamda Mohammed (27) works at the Safe Space Center with KAALO – Aid and Development Organization to help women and girls on gender-based violence, at a camp for internally displaced people Jilab 2 Camp. Hamda is a facilitator and safety educator, and conducts consultations with women and girls, and can also refer people to a hospital or a psychologist.

The Mediterranean Sea, outside Libya coast: The leader of the boat ‘Mike’ uses a stick to catch the hands of people in the water. Here he saves the life of man and the rest of the crew on ‘Mike’ gets him onboard of the boat.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe: Marzyeh Ahmadi (38) and Ali Ahmadi (42) try to comfort their youngest child, Marya Ahmadi. They are on their way back from their 38th escape attempt to Croatia. According to the family, father Ali was beaten and humiliated by the Croatian police, in front of his family, before they were sent back to Bosnia.

Ukraine, Europe: Volodymyr (59) is sitting next to a doctor from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and receiving treatment, because his blood pressure is high, it needs to be measured. He receives medicine. One of his fingers is frozen.

Ukraine, Europe: Residential buildings in Kharkiv, East part of Ukraine have been hit by large missiles sent from Russia. Firefighters are extinguishing the fire and cleaning up. They are looking for survivors in the rubble. 23 January 2024. Greece, Europe: The fire department managed to end the fire with 55 firemen, 15 fire trucks and air support. Fire cameras installed helped to prevent even more spread of the fire around Kanallaki, Northwestern Greece. It helps to identify perpetrators.

Somalia, Africa: View from the plane in the passage to Garowe, the capital of Puntland, in the Northern part of Somalia. The plane's journey is from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, The Horn of Africa. Drought, conflict, climate change and fighting between clans are part of the normal picture. But also, economic development, new innovation projects, progress in human rights and decolonization.

Sierra Leone, Africa: A girl walks across the river that runs between two urban areas in Freetown, Sierra Leone. There is only one bridge connecting them. The locals hope that more bridges will be built. The reason is that when the rain falls heavily, the city area on the left side, where the girl comes from and lives, has difficulty enduring the rain. There, their home is quickly flooded. The bridges can help locals to move quickly to other houses in the urban area on the right, to get shelter from the rain.

Somalia, Africa: Abdirahman (8) and the father's name is Mohamed Abdinasra at an institution for paralyzed people. The boy Abdirahman cannot walk and is now in a wheelchair after he was hit by artillery from Somaliland forces. The boy was hit in his spine and he will only be able to walk again if foreign health workers operate on him. SSC-Khaatumo does not have that capacity.

Sierra Leone, Africa: A very poor area in Freetown, Sierra Leone. A man runs away as the rain falls. Their local lake and river nearby are stuffed with plastic bottles.

Somalia, Africa: Schoolgirls swing on the playground created to be a friendly place for children at the Jilab 2 camp - IDP (Internally Displaced People) by Danish People's Aid, as well as implemented by KAALO - Aid and Development Organization. In the Jilab 2 Camp, more children go to school, and the mood for the playground is at its highest.

Somalia, Africa: Hassan (12) lives in Jawli Camp for internally displaced people in Garowe, Puntland, Somalia. Hassan does not go to school, but helps his mother make shoes. Hunger, poverty and harsh living conditions characterize Jawli Camp - IDP (Internally Displaced People). Hassan is standing in front of a water station, where an elderly man is entering to fill his water bottle.

Greece, Europe: A burned forest area in the outskirts of the town Kanallaki, Epirus Region, Northwestern Greece. The fire was lit by one or more people. Greece faces extreme heat during the summer period, as well as huge migration pressure, tourism and the country is still fighting for better living conditions for the Greek people, with an unemployment rate of 11,1% after their financial crisis several years ago.

Sierra Leone, Africa: Ezekiel Adama Conceh (12) collects the school documents. The wind blows them away, but he puts small stones on the papers which make them stay. The school papers are left to dry from the rain. The school for children in the Pottor community, Proprietor Daniel’s Preparatory School, is hardly affected by floods. When the rain has hit the area here in Pottor community, Freetown, Sierra Leone, it can have severe consequences for the school. The water level can rise up to the children's knees inside the school buildings, which means that lessons at the summer school cannot be completed. Several parents have pulled their children out of school in the Pottor community, fearing they will die from flooding. The head of the school, who is himself a university student, says that the students generally do well in terms of learning, exams and understanding of their subjects.

Denmark, Europe: Port Esbjerg, Southwest Jutland, Denmark. 7 January 2025. It has been raining, the gale force wind on the sea has picked up speed and now the water level has risen by up to 3.5 metres. Efforts are being made to remedy the situation, which went better than feared, according to the weather reports from DMI, Denmark's Meteorological Institute, and the media.

At Esbjerg - completely opposite geographically from Copenhagen - DMI, Denmark's Meteorological Institute, warns of increased water levels up to 3.5 meters above normal water levels.
