Somalia, Africa: Hamda Mohammed (27) works at the Safe Space Center with KAALO – Aid and Development Organization to help women and girls on gender-based violence, at a camp for internally displaced people Jilab 2 Camp. Hamda is a facilitator and safety educator, and conducts consultations with women and girls, and can also refer people to a hospital or a psychologist.
The atmosphere in the IDP (Internally Displaced People) camp Jilab 2 is harsh, and the poverty in Garowe, Puntland's IDP camps is very evident. The Safe Space Center is a safe place where safety is the number one priority for women and girls. Many people from the southern part of Somalia have traveled to IDP camps in Garowe, Puntland, from economic problems and conflict, where i.a. the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab is active.

Ukraine, Europe: Lubov from Ukraine is receiving medicine and having a conversation with a doctor from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in a clinic in Lyman, East part of Ukraine. Lubov’s blood pressure is high. Many elderly people have a high blood pressure, because of stress from the war. Since the full-scale Russian invasion and war started in February 2022 between Russia and Ukraine, many young people have left the area, and it is almost only the elderly Ukrainian people who remain. They don’t want to leave their homes, because they have lived there their whole life.
Lyman is located approximately 13 kilometers from the frontline in the war between Ukraine and Russia. The sounds of the artillery and bombs are present. Lyman was earlier occupied by the Russian military during the full-scale Russian invasion and war, but it was reclaimed by Ukrainian forces.

Ukraine, Europe: Ukrainian firefighters and paramedics are transferring a civilian man alive out of the destroyed rubble at residential buildings in Kharkiv, East part of Ukraine, which was hit by a Russian missile. 23 January 2024. During the evening, the firefighters found the man's wife and child dead inside their former home. 11 civilian people died in Kharkiv, approximately 75 people were injured and several residential buildings were destroyed. The capital Kyiv in Ukraine was also hit by Russian missile attacks.
Kharkiv is located approximately 40 kilometers from Russia. The full-scale Russian invasion and war in Ukraine started in February 2022.

Sierra Leone, Africa: The canals are at a breaking point in the Pottor community, Freetown, Sierra Leone, because there has been flooding during the night. David (23) is standing at the door of his house. In front of him, a young woman walks through the last obvious flooding of the area from the night. The water has started to recede again. David is very cold after the night. The cold comes with the floods. People often die from the cold.
It is clear to see the fear in people's eyes when they talk about the water. They are afraid that if they go to sleep at night and can hear the rain falling, they will wake up to a flooded home. That's why they stay awake, so they can attend to their home's things and help their fellow humans during the rain situations.
The rainy season lasts from July to September in the year 2023. Previously, it was two shorter rainy seasons, but now it is one long continuous rainy season. Afterwards, the people of Sierra Leone are experiencing intense drought. They are looking for ways to store rain from the rainy season, so they can use it, when the drought hits.

Sierra Leone, Africa: A girl walks across the river that runs between two urban areas in Freetown, Sierra Leone. There is only one bridge connecting them. The locals hope that more bridges will be built. The reason is that when the rain falls heavily, the city area on the left side, where the girl comes from and lives, has difficulty enduring the rain. There, their home is quickly flooded. The bridges can help locals to move quickly to other houses in the urban area on the right, to get shelter from the rain.

The demonstration in Copenhagen, Denmark ‘March: Stop The Killings Of Women And Children In Gaza’ for a ceasefire in Palestine, on the route from City Hall Square to Christiansborg Palace Square. Families, men, women and children attended the demonstration from various countries.
Songs and talks about stopping the killings of children in Gaza were frequently sung or talked out loud. The war between Israel and Hamas has cost several thousands of children’s lives.

Aarhus, Denmark: Birgitte (62) and Jørgen listening to Roger Waters in Jørgen's apartment. Jørgen is singing along: “It’s a miracle, another miracle”. Birgitte and Jørgen have been apart for six years but in the spring of 2018, they found each other again in an affectionate friendship. Prior to the break, they were together for 25 years.
Birgitte too is a drug addict and when she and Jørgen used to be together, she earned a living as a sex worker, while Jørgen was dealing drugs. “When we were young, I used to pray to God to have Birgitte be mine. I saw her do a show at a downtown disco once. Since then I was sold,” says Jørgen.

Moldova, Europe: The social workers wake the boys up from their naps in order to dress them before dinner. They work 12-hour shifts. The lack of time and number of boys in every group doesn’t give them enough time and energy to provide sufficient care and pay enough attention to the boys.
The orphanage must cut back on expenses this year and therefore the amount of social workers assigned to each group will be lowered.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe: Nasiha Qarmish (37) from Palestine is walking away from the Croatian border, with four other families, in flip flops, clutching her sleeping daughter. The Croatian border police took Nasiha’s shoes. The four families are at a loss of what to do.
Ahmed Jamous (52) from Syria is walking next to her. His sons are travelling with him. The war has ruined everything. He was shot in his hip during an escape attempt to Turkey.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe: Atefeh Mohseni (10) in front of an abandoned house in Bosanska Bojna, where she sleeps with her family and three other families from Afghanistan. Here, families are constantly replacing each other. Some escape through the Croatian border police into the EU, others find another abandoned house to escape from.
When they are not trying to cross the border, Atefeh likes to drive around in the area on one of the abandoned bicycles.

Atefeh and Nazanin have experienced 20 failed escape attempts of ‘The Game’ at the Croatian border with their father, Hassan Mohseni (39). They live in an abandoned house in the bordertown Bosanska Bojna in Bosnia-Hercegovina.
Earlier, Atefeh and Nazanin’s mother and brother were with the family. But the family split up to improve their chances of escape. Atefeh and Nazanin’s mother and brother managed to get to a refugee camp in the capital Zagreb of Croatia. “The only thing I think about is reuniting my family. I will never stop crossing the border,” says Hassan Mohseni.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe: Marzyeh Ahmadi (38) and Ali Ahmadi (42) try to comfort their youngest child, Marya Ahmadi. They are on their way back from their 38th escape attempt to Croatia. According to the family, father Ali was beaten and humiliated by the Croatian police, in front of his family, before they were sent back to Bosnia.
All of a sudden, a car comes speeding with only one light on. The parents shoot their heads back: "Is that the police?!," the family yells. But inside the car a group from Germany sits. The car is filled with food and the group wants to hand it out to refugees and migrants.
It’s illegal to help refugees in Bosanska Bojna, so the Germans do a quick stop and hand out telephone numbers, so that the Ahmadi family later can get food and toilet paper.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe: Arpita Gope (30) hums and wiggles with her infant, Splindora (7 months), who is born on the run, while tears run down her cheek.
Arpita Gope from Bangladesh has had abnormal uterine bleeding for a long time. "She is bleeding now. We do not know why. At the hospital in Bihać, they cannot find answers. Twice they have examined her", says her husband Sanjoi Gope (38). Arpita changes bandages 10 times a day. The family have lived two years in Bosnia.
"We have to go that way," says Sanjoi while pointing. In the same direction, three black silhouettes of Croatian police are seen with binoculars standing on top of a hill. They will without any doubt see the family as they cross the field. "It’s the only way," says Sanjoi.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe: Hassan Mohseni (39) tries to comfort his youngest daughter, Nazanin Zainab Mohseni (3). She suffers from a toothache. In 1979, Hassan flet Afghanistan with his parents. "Poverty, suffering and pain are what I remember from Afghanistan. We could not cope anymore, so we flet to Iran”.
In 2018, Hassan migrated towards Europe with his own family. Hassan couldn't offer any future for his children in Iran, so they traveled to give their kids an opportunity for education and a better life than they had themselves.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe: Atefeh Mohseni (left) is ten years old, but already an adult. "Yesterday we walked 25 kilometers and then we were sent back by the police," says Atefeh in English.
"I got tears in my eyes when I looked at Atefeh during the trip. I thought: why should my little girl go through all these pains and problems?”, says her father, Hassan.
The Mohseni family, with Ahmed and Hossin, are on their way to another bordertown to try an escape attempt. Ahmed and Hossin's wives are also in Croatia like Hassan's. They are all determined to reunite with them.

Copenhagen, Denmark: "Denmark has not neglected Greenland," says Niels Kristian Møller (50). He lives at South Harbour Copenhagen. The negative is heard. The positive is forgotten. There are many positives between Denmark and Greenland. “We love King Frederik of Denmark. We are very loyal to him. But Trump? He is a devil. Why should we believe him? He always lies,” says Niels.
Niels ́ family are spread around in Northern Europe. “Trump is a disgrace to humanity. He is simply a devil. He always manipulates.” Greenland and Denmark are a marriage: Arguing and loving.

I’ve never had a girlfriend and haven’t had the energy. Now I feel like I can be in a relationship. It isn’t worth living with Anorexia and I now think a lot about love,” says Siri, who is an artist.

Viborg, Denmark: Lotte Mirsal (34) by a lake with her daughter and boyfriend. When Lotte was 12, she did competitive trampoline and tumbling. She gained weight and the coach did not select her for the final competing team. She looked at herself in the mirror and thought: “I’m way too fat”. Lotte began to starve herself. It helped her. She was selected for the team. It didn’t make Anorexia less appealing. Lotte remembers being very sad when she was young.
“I’ve gone through various kinds of treatments since I was 12 and I stopped coming at Centre for Eating Disorders when I was 31. I had to try to fight it myself,” says Lotte. Denmark operates with three different levels of treatment of Anorexia.
